Brightmoor Arts Academy

Our Summer Camp

Brightmoor Arts Academy (BAA) is a five-week, five-day-a-week summer program held free of charge for the Brightmoor community. Each day, students are given 2 hours of music and 2 hours of arts lessons. There are 7 different music classes offered through Brightmoor Arts Academy: piano, guitar, strings (violin/cello), band (brass/woodwinds), drums, voice, and music foundations (4-6 year-olds). Each class has around 7-11 students. All classes are led by professional musicians and educators from the Detroit area. At the end of the summer program, students perform a final concert showcasing their music and art for parents and family.

Seven Mile launched the first annual summer camp in summer 2016 and has continued to host BAA for the Brightmoor community every year since. Many students return each year to continue learning their instruments and grow as young musicians.

In 2018, Seven Mile invited a recruiter from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic youth Ensemble for the last day of BAA, and were able to give auditions to students that showed a passion for music. 21 students were placed into DSO’s Civic Youth Ensembles, where they continue to practice and perform with youth from all over Metro Detroit.

Brightmoor Arts Academy Summer 2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Seven Mile held its first ever virtual Brightmoor Arts Academy! In adjustment for the new mode of teaching, BAA summer 2020 was altered to be a five-week program with three days of music lessons and two days of art lessons each week. Students took part in online group music and art lessons as well as private music instruction. All music and art lessons were held over Zoom, and in lieu of a final concert, students shared their learnings from the summer in a virtual showcase. BAA has since resumed in-person lessons and will continue doing so for the foreseeable future.
