Our Coding program, launched in 2017, introduces students to the basic fundamentals of computer science. Lessons are taught by volunteer student teachers studying Computer Science at the University of Michigan.
Through discussions and hands-on activities, students learn more about computers and develop problem-solving skills. Through drag-and-drop programming students are introduced to fundamental programming concepts like looping, conditions, functions, variables. After learning the basics, students create their own programs using Scratch.
Coding is taught weekly in the fall term (September to December) and winter term (January to April). Throughout each term, students create a game or sketch with code to practice the skills they learned throughout the semester.
